2013 New York Wine Expo (March 1 & 2) – Promo code available

by on January 23, 2013

New York Wine ExpoI don’t promote many events here on the blog, but I had the opportunity to attend the New York Wine Expo last year and can say this is a quality event – one worth telling you about.  The 2013 event is coming up soon and I have discount tickets to offer all my readers.

I wasn’t sure what to expect before I attended last year.  My experience with many large-scale public wine events are that they tend to be drunk fests (i.e. folks more interested in getting drunk and partying than tasting and learning about new wines).  This was not one of those events!

This event, held in the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City, is a classy one to say the least.  It is well organized and takes place in a large enough space for all of its guests, with space remaining to comfortably walk around without feeling like sardines.

The highlights for me last year included my introduction to a wide variety of Greek wines (they had dozens available for tasting last year) which opened my eyes to what has now become a passion of mine.   Another highlight was the amount of Finger Lakes wines available to taste – something I continue to educate myself on daily as I live so close to the region.

With over 500 wines expected at this year’s event you are sure to find some new and interesting finds.

The best part is if you use the promo code VINO you will receive $15 off the grand tasting on Friday or Saturday if you purchase your tickets by February 28th.

If you are in or near New York City for this event and are interested in wine, it is worth every penny for the wines you will have the opportunity to taste.

A bit of advice:

  • Arrive Early!  These events tend to get crowded fast and it’s best to arrive early if you wish to have any meaningful conversations with the wine representatives.
  • Check out the seminars.  They have a growing list of seminars each of the days.  I have my eyes on the Finger Lakes seminar if I go this year.
  • Check out the wine app they provide.  I’m not much into wine apps, but this was very useful for me last year. It provides the full list of wines poured so you can write your notes and rate them for each wine you try. No paper and pens needed.
  • Have fun!
